June 24, 2008 Opposition was noticably active at today's session of the parliament. MP from the Christian Democratic Movement Nika Laliashvili called upon the colleagues to prevent uprooting Georgian language tests from the United National Examinations. As Laliashvili alleged the officials of the Education Ministry told him that the tests in Georgian language would soon be replaced by the TOEFEL type language tests. He said such test in native language were unacceptable because it was a test for foreign language, not for native one. Giorgi Gabashvili from the ruling party denied the information saying it was a lie. Gabashvili defined that the experts were permanently mulling over reforming examination system, but the idea on taking out Georgian language test from national examinations had never been discussed. |
