| Two Vice-Speakers Elected |

June 11, 2008 Lawmakers from the ruling party, Mikheil Machavariani and Anzor Bolkvadze, were elected as Vice-Speakers of the Parliament on June 11. Machavariani has already held the position in the previous parliament. MP Bolkvadze was elected in the Parliament from Khulo single-mandate constituency of Adjara Autonomous Republic. According to the law one vice-speaker should be a representative from the Adjara Autonomous Republic. Machavariani was elected with 110 votes to 0 and Bolkvadze with 111 to 0. Davit Bakradze, the Parliamentary Chairman, reiterated at the session that the ruling party was ready “to give more powers to the opposition, including post of vice-speakers.” |
