The 19th round of security talks between Russia and Georgia concluded here on Thursday without making any substantial achievement, however, Georgia said Russia was more open in certain issue and "moving to the right direction."

Philippe Lefort, European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and for the crisis in Georgia, said participants welcomed the relatively stable environment, despite an increase of the number of the violent incidents along the Inguri river and a new contribution was tabled in the context of the discussion on non-use of force commitments by participants.

They also discussed the international security arrangements and humanitarian issues.

Sergi Kapanadze, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia said this round was relatively positive because "we have a feeling that they are moving to the right direction" when talking about the non-use of force pledge. He said the Russian side was less rigid on this topic compared to last round and he hoped there would be favorable response from Moscow soon.

Russian representative did not attend the press conference after the session.

The internationally mediated Geneva discussions between Russia and Georgia was launched as a result of an agreement between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev on September 2008, following the armed conflict between Russia and Georgia over the issue of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Next session will be held on June 7-8.
