Georgia saw a 39.4 percent increase of foreign visits in the first three months of this year, the Georgian Interior Ministry said Monday.

According to statistics released by the ministry, 677,278 border crossings were made in the first quarter, an increase by 39.4 percent compared with the corresponding period of last year.

Turkey still generates the largest share of visitors into Georgia, accounting for 14.7 percent of the total border crossings in this period. The Azerbaijanis and Armenians consisted of 10.7 and 6.8 percent of the border crossings.

Visitors from Russia increased to 6,192 in border crossings, up from 2,163 in the same period of last year.
