Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has visited to Gori town of Georgia’s Shida Kartli today, dedicated to May 9 – Victory Day over fascism. Georgian President paid a visit to the family of Irakli Kandareli, 83, a veteran of the World War II.

Irakli Kandareli is a proud holder of various awards and medals and is an honorable citizen of the former Czechoslovakia and Ukraine. Presidetn Saakashvili awarded him with Medal of Honor and gave promise to the elderly veteran to return back Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia.

May 9 - Victory Day is a national holiday which remembers the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II and honours 20 million Soviets who died in the war. Reportedly, Georgia has sacrificed over 300,000 lives in the WW II; according to latest data, 10500 veterans of the WW II are now living in Georgia.
